PCT Cluster Chief Executive Appointment

Monday 11th April 2011

It's been announced that Derbyshire Primary Care Trust Cluster now has a new Chief Executive after the appointment of David Sharp who will take up his post with immediate effect.

David has worked in the NHS since 1987 and worked in Board level positions in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire since 1998. With a finance director background, he aims to use evidence to improve healthcare and patient experience within the NHS and has a PhD based on work in that field.

As part of the NHS reforms, PCTs are working together in clusters to support the new environment of NHS commissioning by GP's and local authority-led public health delivery.

Mark Todd, Chairman of the Cluster, commented: "David brings strong experience of the Derbyshire health economy and of leading within the NHS. Board members and I look forward to working with him through this exciting period of change in our local NHS.

"Our goal is to deliver a Derbyshire NHS which has strong clinical leadership, a local elected role and gives patients more power, building on the strong services we already have."

David Sharp said, "I am thrilled to have been appointed to take forward the Derbyshire cluster. While there are clearly tough times ahead I am very much looking forward to working with staff and partners across the county and city to meet the challenges and opportunities we face.

"I'm confident that we can now work towards a smooth transition, building on the work already undertaken by the two PCTs."

David will now establish an Executive Team for the Cluster.
