Top Of The Class For GCSE Students

Thursday 25th August 2011

It's been a bumper year for 8,700 GCSE students who received results in Derbyshire this year, with 79 per cent receiving five or more A* to C GCSE's, which is an improvement of five per cent on last year.

More than half - 58 per cent- have achieved five A* to C grades including English and maths, again, up by four per cent on last year.

These results maintain a five-year improvement trend for performance across Derbyshire from 47 per cent in 2006/7. This year's improvement matches last year's largest ever increase.

All Derbyshire schools are also above the Government’s recently increased targets.

Councillor Mike Longden, Derbyshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Education, is thrilled, saying, "We are delighted with these results.

"Many Derbyshire schools have shown improved performance and there have been many outstanding results for schools and individual pupils.

"I'd like to congratulate students, parents, governors and county council staff for their wonderful efforts and success.

"This is the latest in a series of results over the summer which show that Derbyshire schools have enjoyed significant improvement at every key stage.

"We'll continue to work hard to build on these outstanding achievements in the future."
