He began his career with Manchester City, progressing through the youth ranks to make 15 first team appearances.

He moved on to Notts County where he made 168 appearances and then went on to Doncaster Rovers (63 appearances), Grimsby Town (80) and Rotherham United (115) before spending the last two seasons with Morecambe, for whom he played 73 times before leaving the club in April 2013 to continue his physiotherapy training.

As a youngster, Nick captained Wales at U15s level before being called up by England at both U16s and U18s.

Former Burton Albion and Tamworth midfield man, John McGrath, also joins Alfreton on a one-year dealFormer Burton Albion and Tamworth midfield man, John McGrath, (left) - also joining Alfreton on a one-year deal - is an experienced 33-year-old who has been on trial with the Reds since being released by the Brewers, for whom he made well over 200 appearances, although he finished the 2012/13 season on loan at York City.

He began his career with Aston Villa for whom he made two Premier League appearances. A loan spell at Dagenham and Redbridge followed before he moved to Doncaster Rovers.

A loan spell at Shrewsbury preceded a move to Kidderminster Harriers before he moved on to Limerick - his birth town - and then joined Weymouth before going on to play 42 times for Tamworth.

John was capped five times by the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level.

They become Reds' Manager Nicky Law's seventh and eighth new signings of the summer.
