Nottinghamshire v Derbyshire LV= County Championship Div 1 - Day 2.

Heavy rain washed out the final two sessions at Trent Bridge after Derbyshire lost quick wickets in the morning to leave the LV= County Championship fixture finely poised after the second day against Nottinghamshire.

Match Finely Poised After Rain-Affected Second Day

Wayne Madsen
and Shivnarine Chanderpaul could only add 7 and 9 runs respectively to their overnight totals as an inspired spell from Andre Adams removed both batsman early-on.

Harry Gurney then claimed two wickets as Derbyshire lost four wickets in the only full session of the day, as the visitors closed on 306-6 after only 16.5 overs were possible on Day 2.

Thanks to an excellent 145-run partnership between Madsen and Chanderpaul yesterday, Derbyshire began the second day on 245-2 and the pair continued to take the attack to the Nottinghamshire seamers. Madsen struck the first ball to the mid-wicket boundary as the visitors quickly picked up their second batting point shortly after the start of play.

But the experienced Andre Adams returned to remove both overnight batsmen inside the first hour. Captain Madsen was first trapped lbw for 74 from 146 balls - which included 10 fours - and Chanderpaul then dragged on a good-length delivery for an innings-high 87 from 118 balls.

The Nottinghamshire bowlers continued to enjoy more success on the second morning, as Wes Durston was bowled by Harry Gurney, before the visitors lost their sixth wicket two overs later as Ben Slater was dismissed by a good low catch from Paul Franks off Gurney for two.

But Richard Johnson (8*) and David Wainwright (6*) remained firm to see out the remaining overs until lunch, moving Derbyshire past 300 to claim their third batting point.

Heavy rain during the interval meant a delayed restart after the break, and despite returning to the field, only five balls were possible before rain and bad light washed out the remainder of the day, as the visitors closed on 306-6.
