Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service in association with the Fire Services Youth Training Association is proud to announce that five Fire Cadets aged 15 - 17 years old, are the first in Derbyshire to have successfully completed the Level 2 BTEC Certificate in Fire and Rescue Services in the Community.

The five cadets took part in a variety of fire service activities such as working with ladders, hoses, pumps, hydraulic cutting equipment and the use of Breathing Apparatus. An integral part of the course related to the fires services role within the community, citizenship and personal responsibility.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Andy Waldie (left) said "I am proud of the achievements of these Fire Cadets and feel that they are excellent role models for young people.

"During their time with the Cadet Unit, they have all demonstrated commitment towards achieving their own goals in addition to the BTEC qualification. They have all worked hard and it has been a privileged for all the instructors to work with them and see them develop.

"I hope that the new skills that the Cadets have developed, will be used throughout their chosen careers and future studies."

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is committed to youth engagement and delivers a number of youth programmes supporting young people's development. Fire Cadet and Youth Engagement Courses are delivered across Derbyshire, with Firefighters and Cadet Instructors acting as mentors and role models.
