James Jorgensen Joins The Sheffield Steelers

Friday 20th April 2012

Ryan Finnerty has moved quickly to acquire the services of former Braehead Clan defenceman, James Jorgensen.

James Jorgensen Joins The Sheffield Steelers"
From the first time we played against Braehead last season, he became a target" said Head Coach Ryan Finnerty. "I found him hard to play against defensively, as did the rest of our team. He is smooth, good on the puck and takes no prisoners in front of goal. I'm excited to sign him, he is hungry to win and just the kind of player we needed to bring to this club."

Jorgensen (pictured left playing for the Clan) joined the Clan after spending two seasons in the Central League with Bossier-Shreveport and Wichita Thunder. Prior to that Jorgensen played two seasons in the East Coast league after ending his University career at Ferris State. In his first year in the Elite league, he scored 15 goals and 47 points in for the Clan.

"Sheffield are a winning organisation and I want to win. Joining the Steelers gives me that opportunity" said Jorgensen. "I love the tradition of the club, year after year they are right up there. There is an expectation to win and lift championships and as a player, that's what I wish to do.

"I spoke with Ryan Finnerty and loved how he spoke about the team he was putting together. I'm pleased that he wants me to be a part of that and I can't wait to join up with him and the team next season."

Finnerty sees the Jorgensen signing as the first of several new imports joining the Steelers next season. "We needed more British depth and addressed this with the signing of Colin Shields, maybe more will follow, I would like to think so." said Finnerty. "The rest of the team on the import side needed a shake up as well and Jorgensen is the first of many new import signings this summer.

"I want our D to be bigger, stronger and meaner - and in Jorgensen, this is the first of those that fit the bill."
