The Outgoing Mayor and Mayoress' Civic Thanks

Monday 23rd May 2011

Mick BagshawAs reported in The Chesterfield Post this year's Council election results produced a seismic shift in power, with many longstanding Councillors losing their seats.

One of those was Mick Bagshaw (left) who was just completing his year as Deputy Mayor and expected to become Mayor for 2011/12.

Members of the press have today received the following from Mick and his partner Ruth asking us to convey the message to residents of the Borough. We publish the letter in full below...

CIVIC THANKS.

After receiving so many messages since the end of our year as Deputy Mayor and Mayoress, may Ruth and I please take this opportunity to use your column to say a big thank you to all the kind people who have sent messages of goodwill.

We have served Staveley and Chesterfield as councillors with pride over many years. Serving on committees and outside bodies and have dealt with numerous issues on behalf of both individuals and groups in Inkersall, Hollingwood and Duckmanton, together with many other areas of the Borough.

Ruth and I are honoured to have served the Borough of Chesterfield as Deputy Mayor and Mayoress for the Civic year 2010 to 2011.To have received so many good wishes and thanks together with condolences at losing our seats. (Thus taking away the opportunity of becoming this years Mayor and Mayoress) from so many members of the public, community/uniformed group leaders, civic colleagues and dignitaries has been very touching.

We have very much enjoyed our public service and we are privileged to have done so many civic duties in what has been essentially, an exceptional busy year. We have attended many events with groups and organisations which help keep Staveley and Chesterfield a safe and friendly place to live work and visit.

Ruth and I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your kind words and warm reception and support throughout our public life. May we also express our appreciation to all the Councils departmental heads together with all Council staff at both the Borough Council and Staveley Town Council.

Finally a special thanks to all the civic staff who carry out their duties with the utmost professionalism in performing their many duties. Congratulations must go to them for winning the "Civic Team of the Year" award. We also thank all the local press and media for their support and coverage,

To all, may we send our thanks, love, luck and happiness for your future and hope we may at some time return to public life
