Surprise In Store For Civic Secretary

Monday 25th June 2011

She's the woman who says that she knows everything that happens with regards to the Mayoral diary … so it was quite a shock when Civic Secretary Vivien Miller turned up for her regular meeting in the parlour so find that SHE was about to become the centre of attention.

She was in fact about to be presented with an award from the Parachute Regimental Association for her work with the Shoebox appeal and, during the presentation, a citation was read out from Major General JB Shaw which praised Vivien's support for the troops currently stationed in Afghanistan by helping to find and fund donations to the Shoebox appeal which sends boxes and parcels of necessities out to serving soldiers from residents of Chesterfield.

Reading out the Citation and presenting Viv with the medal, the Mayor of Chesterfield Peter Barr, praised Viv's contribution saying, "It's one of those occasions that got itself missed from the Mayoral diary for some reason, but today we're here to welcome the Shoebox committee and Viv and to read out the Citation from the Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding service to the Parachute Regimental Association of Chesterfield."

Going on to read from the certificate he added, "The PRA recognise that Vivien Miller is a great supporter of the PRA and a key member of sending parcels to troops in Afghanistan - she was instrumental in securing 300 pairs of flip flops from Wilkinsons to be dispatched to Camp Bastion hospital in Afghanistan. The Yorkshire Region strongly recommend that Vivien Miller's hard work and support is recognised by receiving this award from the Parachute Regimental Association."

Vivien herself declared herself, "Overwhelmed - I don't do it for any of this - oh blimey, I'm not worthy of this. I'll wear it with pride, I'm speechless and very proud."
