Once again Chesterfield was today taking part in a week aimed at supporting and honouring Armed Forces connected with the town, past and present.
Eastwood Hall was packed as local residents, veterans and schoolchildren from various schools in the town gathered to meet current serving personnel and chat to veterans who had served in previous campaigns including WW2. Displays and memorabilia also took pride of place in the Hall on Rose Hill.

The event was another part of Armed Forces Week, as featured in the Chesterfield Post on Monday.
The Mayor and Mayoress, along with the new Deputy Mayor and Mayoress, attended the event and His Worship Peter Barr told us why it's a week he's proud to support, "Chesterfield has a large army recruiting place at West Bars, with a steady stream of people enlisting, so there's a good base of support in the town and families that support their children.
"We've heard them say today that once they get into that military life they enjoy it. This week, it's been great to see so many people out on the street and younger people coming to share the historical aspects of military life. They all have such lovely stories to tell!"
The Mayor is however more aware than most that life in the Forces has it's difficult side saying, "It's humbling as Mayor to have to write to families - I had my first one this week. There are enjoyable aspects to being Mayor but there are other aspects too which aren't so nice, but you represent the people and respond accordingly. I feel though that this week the forces have received a message from the people in the town and have enjoyed talking to people today."
Soldiers from the 9/12 Lancers were also present, many having returned from recent tours of duty in Iraq, and were keen to share details of their lives in the services. Cpl Pincott has served since 2001 and, as a Chesterfield lad, was proud to be sharing his experiences, "It's important to be here today and to promote the Regiment and let local community know about what they do, I'm local, from Chesterfield and it's nice to see local people supporting us."
Corporal Pincott has seen active service having done 2 years in Iraq, with a tour of duty in Afghanistan coming round but he says it's not a daunting place to be, "It's dfferent every time, but it's my job and what I'm paid to do."
He, and his colleague Trooper Williams, from Mansfield who joined in 2010, joined through friends and says they've loved the life ever since with Cpl Pincott telling us, "You get progress and can do whatever you want - I was a reconnaissance soldier in the tank command, but now am an instructor. Trooper Williams is a driver."
Asked if they would recommend the life, both answered without any hesitation at all "Yes, absolutely!"
