One of the Steelers all time favourite characters has returned to the club - but this time - as new member of the coaching staff.



Marc LeFebvre (above) played over 100 games for the Steelers in a two year spell between 2003-05 and was an important member of the clubs league and play off winning championship side of 2004.

After leaving the Steelers, Lefebvre then moved on to the Coventry Blaze before spells in North America, in the UHL and SPHL, and Europe in France and Holland.

Sandwiched in-between though, was a spell with the Edinburgh Capitals in 2008-09, where he played for Steelers head coach Doug Christiansen. That relationship is now re-united as Lefebvre joins the Steelers coaching staff under Christiansen's tutorage. 

Returning to North America in 2011, Lefebvre took control of the 1000 Islands Privateers in the SPHL as head coach and GM, moving to Dayton Demonz last season in a similar role. With 41 wins in 52 games, Lefebvre led his team to the top of the standings.

He was looking to return to Dayton this coming season when the opportunity of a Steelers homecoming came about, "I had two of the best years of my life while playing for the Steelers and winning trophies" said LeFebvre, "so when Doug offered me the job, it was a no brainer. I love this club. It gave me the start to my professional playing career, so to come back and be part of Doug's staff is exciting. 

"I have had two successful seasons at a lower level as a Head Coach in North America, but it is now time to move my career forward. Both Doug and I share the same philosophies and ambitions and our goal is to bring silverware back to Sheffield. We both know the fans and clubs expectations and look forward to the challenge ahead."

Head coach Doug Christiansen said, "By adding Marc to our coaching staff, we made the Steelers better. He loves the Steelers and jumped at the chance to come on board. Marc has been named Coach of the Year twice in the FHL and led the Demons to the best record in the league. He is a bright, motivated coach who has a passion for the game.

"Marc and I have discussed players the last three summers as we have built our respective teams. He has many North American contacts that can help in recruiting and team development.  Marc and I had lengthy discussions at the NHL Coaches Clinic about our hockey philosophies and the team we want to build. I am happy to say that he accepted my offer, I am looking forward to working with him."

The Sheffield Steelers commence their EIHL campaign on September 7th with a road game in Coventry before returning to the Motorpoint (Sheffield) Arena on Sunday 8th September (face off 5.00pm).
