Durston's Delight At Derbyshire's T20 Start. Interview By Paul Fisher

This has been a great start to Derbyshire's Friends Life T20 campaign. A victory at Headingley which for all intents and purposes should never have got as close as it did on Friday night, and a win at Grace Road where Derbyshire were concerned with the start that Leicestershire got in their innings.

Whilst Jonathan Clare was the star of the show on Friday night, the all-rounder missed out on Saturday afternoon with a dead leg.

It was left to Derbyshire's leading all time T20 batsman, Wes Durston, to hit a vital 83, and share a record second wicket partnership versus Leicestershire in Twenty20 matches of 94 with Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

It was left to Derbyshire's leading all time T20 batsman, Wes Durston, (above) to hit a vital 83, and share a record second wicket partnership versus Leicestershire in Twenty20 matches of 94 with Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

However, Durston was quick to point out that things didn't go all Derbyshire's way on Saturday...
"We posted a good score, they bowled very well and Josh Cobb absolutely blitzed - and we were thankful for Billy (Godleman) taking a good catch."

Durston, who formed a good opening partnership with Chesney Hughes, was very happy with playing second fiddle...
"Chesney came out of the traps quickly, I think I only had 15 runs after the powerplay, and then me and Shiv took the partnership on. We didn't hit many sixes and fours, but we kept turning the strike over and the partnership was key."

Derbyshire took wickets at the right time when Leicestershire looked to be running away with it, Dan Redfern came on and took a vital wicket of Niall O'Brien, and then Leicestershire collapsed.

Durston was keen to point out that Derbyshire need to keep this momentum going following poor campaigns in recent seasons in the T20's...
"We're playing well, if we had lost last night, then we would have been flat for today and we need to keep that coming. We felt we got out of jail at Headingley, but Clare did well and it set us up for the victory at Leicester."

Derbyshire look forward to the match against Lancashire with Albie Morkel making his home debut, Durston said that the South African's added experience bodes well for the Falcons...
"You can see why he has played in the IPL, his pep talk at the end of the game on Saturday was crucial. He's vocal and demands certain things. He wants us to do well and he's happy to take the new ball and to go in after 10 overs."

Derbyshire's
home campaign versus Lancashire begins tomorrow night at the County Ground (7.10pm start) and is live on Sky.
