Lancashire 151-8 (20 overs)
Derbyshire 154 -3 (19.3 overs)
Derbyshire won by 7 wickets.

Derbyshire again won a last over thriller last night, this time at the County GroundDerbyshire again won a last over thriller last night, this time at the County Ground. Some great early bowling from Tim Groenewald in particular and a fantastic 87 not out from Shivnarine Chanderpaul, made it three wins out of three for the Falcons in their T20 campaign to date.

Derbyshire won the toss and elected to field, they brought Jon Clare back into the side to replace Billy Godleman. Clare missed the victory at Grace Road due to a dead leg. Lancashire named an unchanged side from their defeat to Nottinghamshire the previous night.

Tim Groenewald struck early for the Falcons when he had Stephen Moore caught behind by Tom Poynton off just the fourth ball. Groenewald struck again in his second over when Steven Croft was caught by Albie Morkel at short third man.

Lancashire had only reached 19 when they lost their third wicket. Ashwell Prince was caught superbly well by Jonathan Clare at short mid-wicket low down from the bowling of Groenewald again.

Former Derbyshire batsman, Simon Katich, took a liking to Mark Footitt, the Australian hit him for three fours and a six in an over which went for 20.

Derbyshire were convinced they had Katich caught behind when TV replays appeared to show he had edged a rising ball through to Poynton. Umpire Neil Bainton however, wasn't interested.

Katich didn't last long though and he was out next leg before by Clare for 28 off 21 balls and Lancashire were 48-4.

Karl Brown was joined by Tom Smith and together they gave the Red Rose a chance in the match with a superb partnership of 68 before Smith was caught at long on, off Dan Redfern, for a 'run a ball' 27.

Brown brought his 50 up in the 17th over but was out in the next caught at long on as well from the bowling of Wes Durston. Brown had hit one four and three sixes.

Mark Footitt had one of those nights where not a great deal went for him, he couldn't quite get his line and length right and even dropped a catch off Dan Redfern in the 19th over at deep cover. Footitt redeemed himself next over though when he caught Kabir Ali.

Glen Chapple was run out off the last ball of Lancashire's innings and they closed on 151 for 8.

Derbyshire made the worst possible start of their run chase when Chesney Hughes flashed at a wide one off the first ball and was caught at first slip.

Derbyshire required 8 but Chanderpaul quickly saw it home to finish 87 not out and equal his best score in T20 cricket.
Chanderpaul saw the Falcons home to finish 87 not out and equal his best score in T20 cricket.

Saturday's hero, Wes Durston and Shivnarine Chanderpaul put on 46 for the second wicket, before Durston bottom-edged a ball onto his off stump.

At the half-way stage, Derbyshire were 72-2 and looking good for a third consecutive win. Durston and Chanderpaul did the sensible thing and knocked the ball around into the open spaces.

With rain in the air, the umpires got together and took the players off with Derbyshire edging ahead on the Duckworth/Lewis system. Derbyshire needed to get to 86 at the mid-point of the over and they were four runs ahead.

After a ten minute delay, the players came back and almost immediately Lancashire made a break-through when Wayne Madsen was caught at cover for 23. The Derbyshire skipper and Chanderpaul had put on 50 for the 3rd wicket.

Albie Morkel came to the crease, but it was Chanderpaul who upped the rate with two fours and a six from the 17th over off Steven Parry.

Derbyshire's Head Coach Karl Krikken, couldn't be more delighted with his side as they made it 3 out of 3 in the T20 campaignDerbyshire required 24 from the final three overs and when Chanderpaul hit Kabir Ali for 7, the Falcons were nearly home. From the final over from Ali, Derbyshire required 8 but Chanderpaul quickly saw it home to finish 87 not out and equal his best score in T20 cricket.

Derbyshire's Head Coach Karl Krikken, (left) couldn't be more delighted with his side, "I thought we did everything right, we had them in a great position and they recovered well to get 150.

Krikken was delighted with Chanderpaul's innings of 87 not out, "The little master is a genius, he's such a great player! He backs himself to succeed and it was a gem of an innings, he batted through and we won."
