Adults with learning difficulties in Chesterfield have benefited from cycle safety assessments by Derbyshire Police .
 


Officers spent the morning with a group of adults from Edensor Court,
Inkersall, and talked them through road safety, awareness and bike maintenance procedures.
 
The training session came about after Michael Johnson, a support worker with United Response, which is a charity organisation for adults with learning difficulties, contacted local officers.
 
He felt that some of the people he worked with would benefit from cycling tips that would lead to more confidence and independence.

Police Community Support Officer Janis Naylor, who helped run the session, said: "We often run this course with young people but it can be tailored to suit anybody who needs confidence and tips on how to be road safe while on a bicycle."
 
The trainees now have the necessary skills to use their own bikes safely on the road and many have already been putting them into practice.
 
Mr Johnson said: "I am grateful to the police for running this course and giving the guys the confidence and freedom to go out on their bikes."
