Man Jailed For Drugs Offences After
48 Plant Cannabis Haul

Wednesday 22nd September 2010
A man who called police to report a burglary at his property has been jailed after 48 cannabis plants were found at his home.

John Jenkinson, of Spital Lane, Chesterfield, was arrested in April this year after officers attending his burglary call smelt cannabis and saw fresh leaves on the floor.

In addition to the plants a hydroponics set up was also found in the loft - a haul worth around £23,000 in total.

Jenkinson, 39, said he bought seeds from the internet and cultivated the plants to sell on to pay off debts.

He admitted to already having sold one crop for around £4,000 and that the plants seized by the officers were his second crop grown from cuttings from the previous one.

Jenkinson admitted cultivating cannabis, supplying cannabis and possessing cannabis with the intent to supply at a hearing at Derby Crown Court. He was sentenced to a total of 32 months in prison.

Detective Constable Sally Hibbert of Chesterfield CID said: "This is an excellent outcome that came about as a result of teamwork between uniformed and CID officers.

"We have taken a substantial amount of drugs off our streets and the sentence sends out a clear message that drug dealing is a serious crime and will not be accepted.

"We would urge anybody with information about drug dealing in their community to let us know so we can take positive action."
