Chesterfield have reached the Quarter Finals of a cup competition for the first time since 1997.
Ok, so this Trophy is not of the major scale, but it's a tournament that gives the Spireites the opportunity for some competitive football at a reserve level.
Chesterfield defeated Mickleover Sports last night by four goals to nil with all four goals coming in the second half. Dean Morgan bagged two goals, with further strikes from Tendayi Darikwa and Scott Boden.
The Spireites picked a fairly strong squad with recovering injury hopefuls Dean Morgan and Jamie Lowry keeping up their rehabilitation.
Lowry was captain on the night and settled into his right midfield berth.
Mickleover meanwhile made one change from Saturday's victory over Colwyn Bay with former Spireite loanee Colin Hoyle, now 38, coming into the side.
Mickleover Sports of the Evo Stick Premier Division started the match well with long-range efforts from Karl Ashton and Kieran O'Connell forcing Spireite goalkeeper Shane Redmond to be watchful.
Chesterfield forced Sports goalkeeper Damian Clarke into an early save from a Dean Morgan cross with predator Scott Boden waiting to pounce.
Jamie Lowry, recovering well from his problematic knee injury burst down the right hand side of midfield laying the ball off to Morgan who squared his pass to Darikwa who, from an excellent position completely miscued his shot wide.
Mickelover's efforts were few and far between and mostly from distance, Ashton again burst straight through the middle to give himself an opportunity, however Redmond again saved his effort from distance.
The Mickleover front three looked lively and were causing the Chesterfield defence a few problems with their movements, and it was an Alex Steadman shot - which was fired into the side netting - that had the Chesterfield supporters with their hearts in their mouths. Clarke superbly saved a Dean Morgan free kick and Scott Boden fired wide when Lowry was better placed.
Both sides settled for 0-0 at half time.
Chesterfield started the brighter in the second half and it wasn't long before they got the lead through Morgan. The fomer MK Dons player who was only supposed to be playing 45 minutes got on the end of a Deane Smalley cross to sidefoot past the static defence and break the deadlock.
It was Morgan again who doubled matters, Boden turned well on the left hand side, he fired a shot in with his right and it was spilled by Clarke and Morgan was on hand to make it 2-0. Morgan then had a chance to grab his hat-trick, a superb through ball by Boden put Morgan one on one with Clarke but the Sports stopper saved well and Hoyle was there to clear any danger.
Mickleover should have pulled a goal back with Rushby, a second half substitute firing over after good work by O'Connell down the right.
The Spireites were not done though, Tendayi Darikwa grabbed the third goal through his own making, the fomer youth player slipped making his initial contact but was quickly up and fired a shot towards goal which had a massive deflection and looped over Clarke to make it 3-0.
Jordan Burrow on as a second half sub for Morgan had a golden opportunity to put himself on the scoresheet with a free header that was saved by Clarke, before Chesterfield settled the entire tie with a superb fourth goal. A long ball by Rob Page found that Boden had broken free from his marker and he calmly lobbed Clarke and Walshe who was on the line to get his deserved goal with only six minutes to go.
Chesterfield are through to the next round of the Derbyshire FA Senior Cup comfortably and the competition that the Spireites haven't competed in since the last time they won it, which was 1937, is shaping up to be a good workout for the North Derbyshire Club.
