Nearly There...

Friday 18th February 2011

ALFRETON Town finally, finally reached the halfway stage of their Blue Square Bet North campaign on Tuesday evening.

And what a second half of the campaign it promises to be as Nicky Law's side try to garner enough points from the 60 available to keep all their rivals at bay and ensure they achieve their objective of promotion to the top level of non league football as champions.

The Reds closed the gap on league leaders Nuneaton Town to just four points and still have a massive seven games in hand.

Nicky Law's side have lost just once in their first 20 games, winning 16 of them, conceding just 15 goals whilst building up the best goal difference in the division by a country mile as the division's tops corers.

The first game of the second half of the fixture list is this Saturday when an in-form Solihull Moors are the visitors to the Impact Arena (3pm) for a first meeting of the sides this season.

The Moors, currently sixth in the table, are unbeaten in 11 games and have only lost once in the last 15 league games.

And, if that game is not a stiff enough test, next Tuesday sees Alfreton travel to take on third-placed AFC Telford United at the New Bucks Head.

Andy Sinton's side have also been in very good form of late suffering just one defeat in the last 11, winning seven and drawing the other three.

The sides drew 0-0 at the Impact Arena earlier in the season but an Alfreton win would seriously hamper the Shropshire club's chances of landing the title.

And Alfreton's rivals will no doubt be delighted to hear that Reds boss Nicky Law thinks his side will get stronger.

Law said: "All three of our latest signings have come in and done very well and I am really pleased with all of them.

"Scott Garner has looked good in his first two games. He is a bit low on match practice and will only get better.

"Theo [Streete] is a very good defender who has settled straight in as I would expect him to and keeper Chris Mackenzie has impressed in his first two games.

"He is a good talker and organiser and that is something we have perhaps been missing before.

"We should have Darren Stride back for next Tuesday's game at Telford and Josh [Law] is back in training and may be available for us this Saturday, if not, almost certainly against Telford."

And with Anthony Wilson and Chris Hall returning from loan spells with Matlock Town and Stocksbridge Park Steels respectively before the end of this month, Law will have massive competition for places for the busy run-in.

TRANSPORT:
Alfreton Town Supporters' Association transport to Telford will depart at 5pm and seats can be booked via Mark Thorpe on 01773 836251.

AFC Telford United have advised the Reds that the game will be segregated with Alfreton supporters hosted in the Frank Nagington South Stand.

Entrance to turnstiles I and J of this stand will be off Watling Street only. This stand is under cover and has access to snack and licensed bar facilities and WC's.

Any Alfreton supporters requiring seating should enter the ground through turnstiles I and J and report to the nearest steward. There is a limited amount of seating available and this will be allocated on a first come, first served basis to those with limited mobility or with young children.

Alfreton spectators with disabilities should go the assisted entry gate in the North West corner of the ground where members of Telford's safety team will welcome them.

Car parking is available at the ground £2 per car.

And if that wasn’t enough for Red’s fans……….

Alfreton Town supporters can enjoy a double dose of football on Saturday.

After the Reds' Blue Square Bet North home game against Solihull Moors, the club are putting on a FREE complimentary buffet and inviting fans to stay on and view former Alfreton star Kyle McFadzean's efforts for Crawley Town in their massive FA Cup fifth round tie at Manchester United.

The Solihull game has a 3pm start while Old Trafford tie kicks-off at 5.15pm and is being screened in its entirety live on the big screen in the Reds Bar.
