As Nick Clegg arrived at a Primary School in Chesterfield this morning, a small but determined group gathered by the school entrance, waving placards and protesting about the Coalition cuts.



The Chesterfield Post talked to them about their protest, and any messages they had for Sheffield MP and Deputy Prime Minister Mr Clegg ahead of the proposed Spending review to happen on Wednesday.

James Eadon is President of the Chesterfield and District Trades Union Council. He told us why he didn't support Mr Clegg's visit today.

"I'm here protesting about Nick Clegg coming to Chesterfield to announce a 'Pupil Premium'. It's just a trick to divert attention from the Budget cuts, and other cuts across Education.

"They've privatised schools by bringing in the Academy Scheme and have bought in an 8% cut in funding for University courses. They have also introduced a cap on student fees, which will take ordinary working class kids away from university - so I think that Nick Clegg has a cheek coming here and saying he's standing up for the Working class families."

Mr Eadon went on to say that the cuts would "Affect Chesterfield right across the board - welfare provision and educational provision. In Chesterfield there are real pockets of poverty and these are often vulnerable people - they'e the ones who will be unable to deal with these cuts.

"The recession will have a massive effect, we went through it with Margaret Thatcher and we're back again. That's why we're fighting back today.

Asked what message he had for Nick Clegg he said that "He really should be ashamed of the lies he told at the Election - he promised he wouldn't increase Tuition Fees, and now has. He should just stop propping up The Tories."
