Wednesday 25th May 2011
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law has had last season's title-winning efforts rewarded with a new three-year contract.
After successive third-placed finishes and tasting defeat in the play-offs in the previous two campaigns, the Reds boss guided Town to a historic Blue Square Bet North title with a ten-point winning margin to take the club into previously unchartered territory.
Law, along with assistant Russ O'Neill, had one year left of their existing contract with the Reds. But both have agreed to replace that by penning new three-year deals which will keep the highly-rated pair at the Impact Arena until the end of the 2013/14 season.
Everyone at the club will be delighted with the latest piece of the stability jigsaw which will ensure the continuity of the management team since joining the Reds just over four years ago.
The quality within Law's squad has again been to the forefront in the past week with two players featuring prominently.
Last Thursday, left-back Connor Franklin became the latest Alfreton player to gain an England C international cap.
Franklin, who was superbly consistent throughout last season, played 65 minutes for England in their 1-0 Challenge Trophy Final against Portugal at Northampton Town's Sixfields Stadium before going off with an injury.
Meanwhile, striker Liam Hearn has been named as the Blue Square Bet North player of the month for April.
Hearn finished top scorer for the Reds with 32 goals in the 2010/11 campaign, 30 of them coming in the league. The Reds had a fantastic end to their season and Hearn contributed nearly 50 per cent of their goals during the period, netting 11 of the side's 25 goals in nine games.
The highlight was a hat-trick in just four minutes either side of half-time in the
6-0 home thrashing of play-off bound Guiseley.
This Friday Alfreton are holding their annual presentation dinner/dance at the Boundary in South Normanton where the Player of the Season Awards will be made.
