Madsen Behind Price Cuts

Wayne MadsenWayne Madsen (left) has praised Derbyshire's decision to slash admission prices for the visit of Worcestershire Royals on Wednesday.

The in-form batsman wants to play in front of big crowds at every game.

The cost of admission is just £6 (£4 juniors) for the televised fixture that starts at 7.10pm tomorrow (Wednesday) at the County Ground, Derby.

Madsen said: "Hats off to the Club for making a real effort to get the crowds in for the TV game on Wednesday and it should be a good spectacle.

"We have a good vibe in the team at the moment and I think the supporters have felt that as well.

"The way we have been playing boosts the support even more and we would love to play in-front of big crowds in every game.

"A big thank you goes to the supporters who have come down so far because it really has made a massive difference to us."

Madsen has starred with rapid half-centuries in each of the Falcons' last two matches while sizeable contributions have also come from his fellow top-order batsmen Wes Durston, Martin Guptill and Chesney Hughes during the tournament so far.

Durston has scores of 86 and 46 to his name while Martin Guptill has shown his international class with knocks of 60 and 44 in the recent home and away clashes with Durham Dynamos.

Big hitting Chesney Hughes, meanwhile, scored 48 in the rained off fixture on Sunday and showed how destructive he can be with 65 from just 32 balls in the opening fixture against Lancashire Lightning.

Madsen said: "All the batsmen have done well at the top of the order so far and that's been the key to getting big scores. It has been nice to contribute to that in the last couple of games.

"There have been two contributions in every game from the top four or five which is brilliant.

"We have had some really good wickets to bat on which is ideal for us as batters although it does make life slightly tougher for our bowlers."

Looking ahead to the Worcestershire fixture, Madsen recognises the threat posed by the Royals' powerful batting order but remains confident of picking up two valuable points.

He said: "They've got a few decent players up-front - batsmen such as Vikram Solanki, Shakib-al-Hasan and Moeen Ali - then there is Gareth Andrew who seems to be smacking it in the middle-order.

"There are a few guys we have got to be wary of. But if we play how we have been playing we are pretty confident.

"Winning is a habit and if you keep doing it the vibe in the team gets stronger and stronger. When you start getting into the flow of winning games it becomes really enjoyable.

"The momentum is with us at the moment so hopefully we can continue that."

Victory for the Falcons tomorrow will propel them above their opponents in the table and into the all important top four.

Entertainment around the County Ground will include guest appearances from Derby County Football Club Mascot Rammie alongside Freddie the Falcon and the Mercian Regiment's Official Mascot Private Derby, a cricket activity zone for kids and the opportunity of photographs with the Friends Life t20 trophy.

Tickets can be purchased for £6 adults, £4 under 16's either in advance of the day of the game or on the gate.
