The sporting achievements of Derbyshire school pupils and teams will be celebrated later this year at the Derbyshire Schools' Sports Association Sports Awards.

The annual awards honour the sporting successes of school pupils from across the county, giving recognition to those who have excelled in school sport or sport outside of school, and nominations for the event are currently being welcomed.

The event is organised by the Derbyshire Schools' Sports Association (DSSA), and is a chance to congratulate the most talented young people in a wide range of sports. It is also a chance for the DSSA to thank its most dedicated student and adult volunteers who give their time to school sport.

Schools, sport and area associations are invited to nominate individuals and teams from primary, secondary and special schools in the following categories: Individual Achievement, Team Achievement, Student Volunteer, Adult Volunteer.

In the Individual Achievement and Team Achievement categories, awards will be divided into Primary and Secondary School categories, as well as a disability category.

Chair of DSSA Suzanne Meehan said: "This has been another great year for school sport in Derbyshire and it is important that we recognise talented young people, celebrate their achievements and encourage them to future success.

"These awards are also a way of saying thank you for the hard work and commitment of some of the dedicated student and adults volunteers involved in sport, without whom many of the sporting opportunities enjoyed by young people in our schools would not be possible."

The closing date for all nominations is Friday, June 29th, 2012.

Pupils attending any school within Derby and Derbyshire are eligible to be nominated, including those who were nominated last year.

The ninth annual DSSA Sports Awards will take place on Thursday, October 4th at the B2net Stadium, the home of Chesterfield Football Club.
