The Olympics has now drawn to a close and is being hailed a huge success for Team GB.

It's not just in the arenas though where the UK has proven itself, but also behind the scenes where thousands of officials and volunteers have made it all seem well, seamless!

One of those volunteers was Kay Adkins, (pictured left at yesterday's Chesterfield FC Open Day) who, during her day job, is a Community Trust Officer at Chesterfield Football Club. She's just arrived back in Chesterfield after being part of the excitement for the last 2 weeks and told The Chesterfield Post it had been the experience of a lifetime for her.

"I applied, as everyone had to, but I was involved by British Cycling as I am a cycling coach and they invited me to make an application and that's how it started really.

"It's been really interesting! Lots of exciting things going on - I really got involved in it and saw lots of exciting stuff behind the scenes, as well as in front of it but it was very good."

Kay was lucky enough to be present at a pivotal moment of the Olympics, "I was working on the cycling road race and time trials, so I saw all the cycling folk. I was standing right at the side of Bradley Wiggins just after he won his Gold medal for the time trials. I was looking after the race vehicles for the cycling

"It was wonderful to be a part of it and you felt part of the team with the people you were working with - a real camaraderie between people - so it was good to be involved in."

Given her role at the club, which involves promoting both the club and sport to the community, Kay admits that the wave of aspiration emanating from the Olympics will do wonders for people like her and their role in sport, "I'm already pretty inspired! I'm a member of a local cycling club as well as working here. We've got a day next week where we hope to get a lot of kids to come along to a session and hopefully, it's inspired them to get on their bikes. But equally, I've also done some 'over 70's' cycling here at the stadium and I'm hoping to get some more - that would be good!"
