Clay Cross Town FC 7 - 0 Thoresby Colliery
The Windsor Foodservice Central Midlands Football League - North Division
at "The Devil Made Me Do It Tattoo Studio" Ground.
For Clay Cross Town FC, the season started with four straight league wins, two defeats followed; it was vital to stop the rot and get back to winning ways; they did so in style!
Manager Asa Ingal found the right combination as his team steam-rollered Thoresby Colliery out of sight.
On a perfect afternoon for football, Cross put on a master-class display of flowing football that few teams, at this level, could have lived with.
The first goal seemed a long time coming and when Phil Lowry had all the time in the world, on 20 minutes, to pick his spot, but fired wide of the right upright, a few doubts may have crept in.
Clay Cross' players congratulate team-mate Rockie White on his hat-trick
Instead, moments later, Lowry turned provider for the veteran Rockie White to stroke home a sweet angled drive to put the home side ahead.
Three minutes later, Thoresby keeper, Milnes, produced a stunning finger-tip save to deny White his second; the save merely delaying the inevitable. From a superb Pemberton cross, White's back header gave the keeper no chance.
By the half hour hour mark it was 3-0. White supplied the through pass and the impressive Carl Whitford slid neatly home.
In first half added time, White bagged his hat-trick after a clumsy foul on Lowry gave the Belper based referee, Tim Walker, no option but to point to the spot. His faultless spot kick gave the home side a four goal advantage and a more realistic feel to the scoreline.
Thoresby enjoyed their best period of the game immediately after the break but failed to capitalise.
Normal service was resumed on 68 minutes when a superb move between White, Pemberton and subsitute Gee ended with White sweeping in a neat half volley from close range, to register his fourth of the game and his eighth of the season.
His substitution moments later ensured another name on the score sheet after Danny Gee was felled in the box. James Pemberton's blast to Milnes' left was equally emphatic.
Moments later, Thoresby were down to ten after Danny Gee was fouled. Tom Bryan appeared to want to debate the issue and finished the conversation with a head-butt on Gee and a walk of shame.
Phil Lowry's hard work set up the tireless Pemberton who powered home from close range, on 78 minutes, to give Clay Cross a deserved seven goal advantage.
After the game, Manager Asa Ingal commented that he was "Pleased with the performance, especially with Rockie White who had been carrying an injury throughout but had still managed to score four goals."
He added, "I felt that our side had more balance and the score could have reached double figures if it hadn't been for a superb performance from the visiting keeper. I'm also pleased that we kept our first clean sheet of the season; that's a real confidence boost, we looked solid throughout!"
Saturday's goal feast means it's now 28 goals in just seven league games, an astonishing average of four per game.
If local football fans have yet to get down to the ground with the very unusual name (featured in the September edition of football magazine FourFourTwo) don't delay too long, because the only thing unusual about the football is it's high quality!
