Reds Hunt The Terriers This Weekend

Thursday 19th January 2012

Alfreton Town face three tough games in a big week against sides chasing distinct targets.

Reds Hunt The Terriers This WeekendOn Saturday, Nicky Law's (left) side host a Kidderminster Harriers team whose recent good form has lifted them to sixth place in the table, only outside the play-offs on goal difference.

Next Tuesday sees a crucial relegation clash at Bath City who could move off the bottom of the table with a win over the Reds.

Then a week on Saturday brings a difficult trip to third-placed Luton Town who will still have designs on the title never mind a play-off position.

But the Reds will go into the first one, at home to high-flying Kidderminster Harriers this Saturday in fine form, buoyed by a terrific 6-0 success at Southern League Premier Division side Weymouth in the FA Carlsberg Trophy last weekend.

The victory was the biggest the Reds have ever recorded away in the competition, eclipsing a 5-0 first qualifying round win at Gresley Rovers back in the 1970/71 season.

It was a day full of plusses with recalled goalkeeper Dan Lowson keeping a clean sheet and both Nathan Arnold and Nathan Jarman netting twice, Jarman taking his total for the season to a very healthy 12 already.

Paul Clayton added the sixth with the fifth coming from latest loan signing, Louis Moult from Stoke City, who looks to be a top quality addition.

Indeed, the Reds have rediscovered their scoring touch at the right time for the crucial run in with 15 goals being scored in the last four games.

A win over Kidderminster on Saturday would avenge a 3-1 defeat at Aggborough in a feisty affair on September 17th and could also lift Nicky Law's side out of the relegation places.

Law will have to wait on a late fitness test for central defender Adam Quinn who missed the Weymouth tie with a calf strain, but Quinn aside, Law has no other injury or suspension worries and may also strengthen his squad further still.

The Reds boss is hopeful of bringing in at least one player in time for the Kidderminster game and another one next week whilst there are still other irons in the fire being heated ahead of the transfer window deadline of January 31st.

TRANSPORT

ATFC Supporters' Association transport to Bath will depart at 3pm and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 01773 836251.

And there is advanced notice for fans that ATFCSA transport for the Luton game will depart at 9.45am.

REARRANGED

Alfreton's reward for reaching the FA Carlsberg Trophy third round for the second successive season is a trip to Gateshead on Saturday, February 4th.

Due to this, the scheduled league game against Stockport County on the same day has been cancelled and rearranged to Tuesday, February 14th with a 7.45pm kick-off.
