REPORTS FOR SATURDAY JUNE 25th 2011
Division One It was the long awaited clash between leaders Parkhead and second placed Millhouses Works. The match didn't disappoint with the home side batting first making a good 201-8 from their 46 overs. Top scorer was A.Vinall with 46 whilst M.Cox claimed 5-117. The result went to the wire with Works scrambling to victory at 205-8. Skipper, Richard Everitt was again amongst the runs making a fine 68, with Dar cracking 53. Best bowling for the home side came from the pacey Chris Turner with 4-61. The win takes last season's champions back to the top of the table. Another major clash was a relegation encounter between near neighbours Hundall and Apperknowle. Bottom of the table Hundall dismissed the visitors for 128 and then knocked off the runs for the loss of just one wicket with Andy Timms hitting a fine unbeaten 55 and Martin Dawson an unbeaten 46. This win sees Hundall overtake their neighbours at the bottom of the table. The Pearson brothers were in fine form for fourth placed Holmesfield at home to third in the table, Sheffield University Staff. Jimmy hit 82 and Neil an unbeaten 71 in their side's impressive total of 223-7 (J.Young 4-34). In reply, Staff closed on 163-7 (Paul Kerry 43, M.Joshi 40). Hollinsend Meths returned to winning ways with a good win at the Olive Grove ground of Sheffield Centralians. They did well to make an all out total of 140 (Schofield 4-42). This was always going to be a good enough total on a very difficult wicket as they bowled out the home side for just 49. Best return coming from Nyabezi with 4-25. Another side back to winning ways were De La Salle OB with an eight wicket victory at Hathersage. Batting first the home side were restricted to 141-8 from their allotted overs, with Askew top scoring on 49 and Willey picking up a useful 5-48. De La Salle relied with 143-2 (White 63no, Scaife 62)
Division Two Leaders Stocksbridge lost their hundred percent record as a result of an exciting tied game with Millhouses Works 2nd. They bowled out the visitors for 192 (Amjad 44, Rehman 40). In reply they finished on the same score at 192-7. James Ward was again amongst the runs with 68, whilst J.Spawton made a useful 53. Dronfield Woodhouse returned to winning ways at home to Parkhead 2nd. The visitors made a useful 177-7 from their overs, top scorer being P. Mountstephen with 73. Dronfield cruised to a six wicket win at 179-4, mainly due to another fine innings of 78 from Chris Sanders. Hallam 3rd had an excellent win at Ashford. They bowled the home side out for 138 (Carrington Jnr 57, Andrews 7-59) and then replied with 140-6 (Thorpe 44). Calver continued their fine form with a win at Ridgeway. Batting first they made 151-6. They then bowled out the home side for 119 with most of the wickets falling to Coxhead 4-18 and Waters 4-58. Shaun Beck hit 49 for Ridgeway. Promotion chasing Sheffield Civil Service probably felt they hadn't made enough after being sent back for 117 at the Sheffield Transport ground (G.Lewis 5-32). They, then bowled out the home side for just 81 (P.Waller 4-22) to set up a thirty six run win.
Division Three Best rowling of the day came in this division from Bakewell's Paul Fern who had the superb return of 9-16 as visitors Sheffield Collegiate 4th were shot out for just 31. Earlier Bakewell had posted 211-9 with Lee Tann hitting a fine 87. Millhouses Works 3rd could only muster 86 all out at home to Stocksbridge 2nd who raced to a nine wicket victory at 89-1. There was a very close affair at Richmond who were dismissed for 91 (I.Gillott 5-33) chasing Shardlows earlier score of 99 (S.Burton 4-32). This was Shardlow's first victory of the season. Totley Sports 181-7 (N.Birks 77) had a comfortable home win over TRS who were sent back for 124. Whittington Wanderers gave league leaders Baslow a fright despite being dismissed for just 109 (P.Fletcher 43, J.Keer 6-12). Baslow struggled to meet their target, eventually getting there at 110-8 (C.Cowley 44).
Division Four Leaders Totley Sports 2nd, enhanced their position with a win at Sheffield Zingari. They posted a good score of 239 all out. The home side made a good response closing at 216-9 with Ruparella again amongst runs making a fine 75. Apperknowle 2nd 140-9 were beaten at home by neighbours Hundall 2nd 141-7 (Stenton 43 no) Coal Aston 3rd were all out for 171 (Shah 41, Smith 5-56, Ramsden 4-59) chasing promotion seeking Chesterfield Barbarians 2nd 217-4 (Keighley 74, Bramwell 53) De La Salle OB 2nd 195-9 (Flatley 74, Morton 7-68) had an excellent win over Hathersage 2nd 86, with veteran Paul Lally again amongst the wickets taking Hollinsend Meths 2nd 119-3 had a seven wicket win over Sheffield Centralians 2nd, 114 all out. Walkley 151-3 (J.Hudson 63), are going well and continued their good form with a fine win over Youlgreave Lodge who were earlier bowled out for 148.
Division Five Top match in this division saw the first defeat of the season for Sheffield Medics, at the hands of promotion chasing Walkley. Medics were all out for 125, with Woodhouse posting a narrow victory at 128-8. David Barker making a fine unbeaten 69 for the home side. Baslow 2nd 212-4 (T.Sadler 45, Wainwright 43 no) had an easy home win over bottom of the table Whittington Wanderers 2nd 47 (P.Henstock 4-6) Chesterfield Barbarians 3rd 132-9 (P.Burke 5-36) had a narrow one wicket victory over Ridgeway 2nd 130. Sheffield Civil Service 2nd batting first made 159 all out (J.Jewitt 85, W.Kavanagh 5-5). They then sent back visitors Stocksbridge 3rd for 82 (G.Hughill 6-25, T.Newsome 4-19).
