What Makes Greyhound Racing So Beloved To It's Fans?

Friday 4th December 2020

Greyhound racing is a sport of great traditions and great history, and today it still enjoys immense popularity among its hardcore fan base for a wide variety of reasons.

Greyhound racing is a sport of great traditions and great history, and today it still enjoys immense popularity among its hardcore fan base for a wide variety of reasons.

Each week, racing enthusiasts and curious punters make their way to the tracks to see the dogs in action and potentially have a little flutter should one of the greyhounds catch their eye.

It’s a sport that doesn’t receive a huge amount of coverage, so let’s take a look at a few reasons why greyhound racing is so beloved by its followers.

The Beauty

One of the main reasons people enjoy greyhound racing is the grace and beauty of the dogs themselves.

Irrespective of their speed, greyhounds are among the most beautiful and majestic breeds of dogs, and to see greyhounds that have been impeccably cared for and conditioned is a wonderful sight.

In full flow, watching greyhound racing can be a mesmeric experience. The rhythmic pumping of the dogs’ legs and the sheer speed at which they move is enough to make anyone marvel, and it’s no surprise the popularity of the sport has endured given the beauty of it at its most basic level.

The Thrills

Such speed leads to intense entertainment, and this is one of the main reasons why the public flock to the greyhound tracks.

Races can often be incredibly close and extremely difficult to call, often making it a thrilling lottery as to which dog is going to win.

Of course, greyhound racing is a sport loved but punters on sites like Betdaq, for the same reason that it is such a challenge to analyse and predict the winners. The discerning sports fan can find great entertainment in greyhound racing due to its unpredictable nature and the power it has to thrill and surprise.

The History

It’s well known that greyhound racing enjoys a rich history, having been a major form of sport and entertainment for many years.

The sport has evolved significantly over time, from the quality of tracks and facilities to the way dogs are treated and cared for.

For those who enjoy taking in a sport with a unique history and traditions which go back tens of years, there are few better forms of entertainment than greyhound racing, whether it’s watching in person or on TV.

The Setting

Many greyhound tracks are steeped in tradition and are beautiful venues in and of themselves.

The likes of Belle Vue come to mind when you think of the best British racetracks, as these are settings with a rich history of quality racing.

Even Chelsea’s football stadium Stamford Bridge was once a venue for greyhound racing as well, adding another layer of depth to the history of the old west London ground.

While greyhound racing isn’t likely to be the first sport that springs to mind when you’re deciding which sport to watch on a Saturday afternoon, there are many appealing aspects of it that make it so important to those who hold racing dear.
