Leon Clarke Set For Spireites

Wednesday 7th September 2011
by PAUL FISHER

John Sheridan is set to resurrect Leon Clarke's career by offering him a three month loan at the B2net Stadium, when the loan window opens tomorrow (Thursday).

Clarke had signed for Swindon Town in August, but publically fell out with manager Paulo Di Canio, who vowed "never to play him again".

Sheridan who has stated that he is in the market for two strikers is able to give Clarke a platform to perform and help solve the Spireites attacking crisis.

Clarke has previously been with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield Wednesday and last season at Queens Park Rangers. Clarke also had a spell on loan at Oldham in 2006/07 season, when John Sheridan was manager at Boundary Park. Whilst he was there he produced a spell of three goals in five matches, before going back to Hillsborough.

Sheridan has been in the market for a striker, even before Saturday's injury to Jack Lester, who has had a metal plate inserted into his arm after picking up a fracture in the weekends 0-0 draw with Leyton Orient.

Meanwhile, Jamie Lowry has been added to the long injury list by picking up a broken toe in last weeks reserve fixture against Derby County. Lowry joins, Lester, Derek Niven, Gregor Robertson and Dwayne Mattis on the treatment table. Mark Randall is set to be recalled to the Spireites squad following a reserve team outing away at Stoke City yesterday.
