REPORTS FOR SATURDAY JULY 2nd 2011
Division One Leaders, Millhouses Works entertained bottom of the table Apperknowle. The home home side hitting an impressive 235-9 from their forty six overs. Useful contributions came from Iain Mallet, 43, L.Stewart 45 and J.Woods 46. Apperknowle were never in the hunt closing thir innings on 99-8 (S.Mumtaz 4-16) Second in the table Parkhead returned to winning ways after last weeks defeat to Millhouses Works, with a good win at Hollinsend Meths. Batting first they made 181-8 from their allotted overs, with Walsh making a fine 61. The home side put up some firm resistance closing their innings at 152-9 (Michael Parker 42, Chris Turner 4-47) There was also victory for the third placed side, Holmesfield, they posted a total of 177-9 at Centralians with Jimmy Pearson again amongst the runs, making a useful 54. The home side made a spirited reply of 158-9 (J.Schofield 67) Fourth placed Sheffield University Staff had an easy win at home over Hathersage. The visitors opted to bat first on a very difficult wicket with variable bounce. They could only muster an all out total of 65. Top scorer was Beatson with 15. The wickets were shared by the home side, with Kandasany having the best figures of 3 for 6. In reply, Staff reached 68-2 to claim an eight wicket win, with Sharma batting throughout with an unbeaten 27. After last week's fine win, Hundall were brought back down to earth at De La Salle OB. Batting first they were bowled out for 136. De La Salle reaching their target at 140-6, Sean White top scoring with 67. This was his fourth half century in his last five innings.
Division Two The only unbeaten side in the whole of the league are Stocksbridge, who march on at the top of the league after an emphatic win at third placed Sheffield Civil Service. They bowled the home side out for 120 (C.Vickers 4-37). James Ward was again amongst the runs as he hit a fine 70 in their reply of 121-2. Parkhead 2nd won only their second match of the season. Batting first they made a mdest 146 all out. D. MacCaig was the top scorer with 53. They then bowled out their opponents Ashford for 107 (Carrington 33), to record a thirty nine run victory. This was as a result of superb spell of bowling by D.Renton 6-24. The win however doesn't lift Parkhead out of bottom place in the table. Second in the table, Calver won their eigth match in a row at home to Dronfield Woodhouse. They made an excellent 234-8 batting first with Ed Coxhead smashing 94 including nine sixes. For Dronfield, Steve Vessey claimed 4-77. The visitors were then sent back for 145. Not before another fine innings of 83 from Chris Sanders. Doug Howie was the best Calver bowler with 5- 37. There was a very exciting game between Sheffield Transport and Hallam 4th. Batting first, Transport were dismissed for 149. Hallam in reply fell just one run short being bowled out for 148. This was despite a fine knock of 87 by S.Hayes. For Transport Phil Cotterill was the pick of the bowlers with 5-53. Grindleford picked up a useful win at Ridgeway. This was mainly due to an excellent all round performance by R.Tiffin. He took 5-44 as Ridgeway were dismissed for 161 (Steve Woolley 70, T.Outram 4-2), then hit 43 as the visitors clamed a five wicket win at 166-5 (T. Outram 53 no)
Division Three Leaders Baslow suffered their second defeat of the season at Sheffield Collegiate 4th. It proved to be a convincing one as they were all out for 121 and the home side lost just two wickets in reaching their target. For Collegiate B.Rooke made a fine 62. Shardlows were bowled for just 95 by Sheffield University Staff 2nd who replied with 96-3, to consolidate second place in the table. Stocksbridge 2nd hit an impressive 212-4 (E.Price 93, P.Wingfield 69) and then restricted Whittington Wanderers to 120-9 (Fletcher 55, J.Hibbert 5-14). TRS 237-8 (P.Kirk 55, C.Renshaw 75no) had an emphatic win at home to Richmond who could only make 75 (Abbass 4-6). Totley Sports batting first made a useful 196-9 (S.Birks 60). This wasn't enough for an in form Bakewell who replied with 200-4 (Madin 57no).
Division Four Totley 2nd are the new leaders. They picked up a three wicket win at Apperknowle 2nd. The home side made a good 172 (Abbas 5-56). Totley reaching their target for the loss of seven wickets, with N.Kahan top scoring on 47. Previous leaders Chesterfield Barbarians 2nd suffered a home defeat to fourth placed Walkley. Batting first, Whittington made 168-8 (T.Firth 4-55). In reply, Walkley gained victory at 172-5. Coal Aston 3rd hit 164-3. This included a fine unbeaten 102 by Lawrence Browes (the league's only century maker of the day). This was in response to De La Salle OB 2nd 160 all out. Hathersage 2nd 151 were beaten at home by Sheffield Centralians 2nd 193-7 Hundall 2nd 154-8 were also soundly beaten by Hollinsend Meths 2nd who posted a fine 243-5 (S.Rogers 81 no, S.Vessey 40) Youlgreave Lodge were rushed out for just 61 (G.Taylor 5-14), this was after hard work in the field as visitors Sheffield Zingari hit an impressive 223-4 (Ab Ruparella 46, Ad. Ruparella 40).
Division Five Top game in this division was between leaders, Sheffield Medics and Stocksbridge 3rd. Batting first Stocksbridge piled up a good total of 248-6, with Merfin hitting 84 and Siddall 81. Asquinque claiming 4-35. Medics fell short of their target but still made an impressive 234 all out (Masroor 69, Sachin 81, Howe 4-21) to lose by fourteen runs. Stocksbridge now move up to second in the table. Baslow 2nd 147 (T.Sadler 65, R.Dewsbury 5-36, M.Joyce 4-13) were beaten at home by Ridgeway 2nd 148-6. Hallam 4th 80-7 (R.Burgin 4-26) had an excellent win over promotion chasing Woodhouse who they had earlier dismissed for 79 (Mobbs 4-19). Whittington Wanderers 2nd are having a tough time. They were shot out for 29 (M.Leonard 5-9, T.Newsome 5-18) by Sheffield Civil Service 2nd who, batting first, posted 237-6 (J.Jewitt 52, T.Hooley 4-53).
